The best way to lock the Desktop on Mac OSX which is known from the WindowsKey + L function on Windows is to show the Keychain Access Icon on the Toolbar and select “Lock Screen”.

To enable the small icon enter the Keychain Access utility which can be found at “Finder > Applications > Utilities” and open up the Preferences. On the tab “General” select “Show keychain status in menu bar”.
