My tool tip for this month is Snowtape – a Online Radio player and recorder for Mac OSX.
The trial is very limited but maybe you’ll regard the price of 29 USD as acceptable.
If this is too much, try FireRocker for 10 USD.

The most comfortable way to uninstall pkg packages on Mac OSX is to use “UninstallPKG”, which can be downloaded here. Sometimes program developers don’t include usable uninstall scripts like an uninstall.sh. In these cases, it is difficult to detect all parts of the installed package and remove them easily. UninstallPKG scans the drive for installed packages and lists them for you to uninstall. It is quite interesting to see, which programs still hide in the background. The version available for download allows 3 package uninstallations. The full version costs 9,99 USD.
If you like Launchy (Windows) or Gnome Go (Linux), Alfred may be the perfect spotlight alternative for you on Mac OSX. Alfred finds and starts apps and files on your Mac without lifting your hands off the keyboard. Alfred learns which apps or files you use most and prioritises them when you search.
It increase your productivity with useful filter keywords, making your mouse almost obsolete!
You should definitely check this FREE App. It can be downloaded from the developers website and the official App Store.
I would like to present you the Best Virus Protection for Mac OSX. From my work as an IT Security Professional I already know Sophos Antivirus as one of the most sophisticated Antivirus solutions in the market. The most respected Antivirus comparison is the so called “AV Comparatives” test in which Sophos is always one of the best candidates. (Virus protection tests results for 2013)
The Sophos Antivirus App for Mac OSX is free for personal use.
Since iTunes is a rather hungry for system resources I decided to search for a lightweight and simple MP3 player for Mac OSX. After some disappointing experiences with players like “Miro” and “Songbird” I found a beautifully designed, fast and lightweight alternative to iTunes that made my day. VOX is an elegant music player with a bunch of interesting features. However the main focus clearly rests on its simplicity and slim UI.
VOX is my recommendation for anyone who is fed up waiting for iTunes to start up and sick of MP3 players that take hundreds of megabyte memory just to playback a simple mp3 file.
It took me months to discover a Finder Alternative that has everything I ever wanted and some extras I never thought of. I tested 6 Finder Alternatives over the last 5 months and found one that made my day. The answer to my prayers is called “Path Finder 6” from Cocoatech. Here comes a quick review.
Some of the Key Features:
This is what it looks like on my system.
The features I really like are the “Find Window” and “Size Browser”.
An awesome feature that I always missed while handling big files was the option to queue file transfers. So if you often copy movies, photos or mp3s to other hard drives or your NAS the queuing feature proves very useful as it copies the files and folders in a sequence and not everything at the same time.
The price of 39 USD seems high but it is worth twice the price compared to all other file managers I have teste, which cost nearly the same. They offer a 30 day trial period. You should definitely try it for free and discover for yourself that this file manager is all you ever wanted.
This is the Link to the official website.
I recently noticed the developer FIPLAB who produces a lot of useful Apps for Mac OSX. All apps are of high quality cheap or for free. I personally use “Disk Map”, a tool to show hard drive usage, “Disk Doctor”, a tool to free up hard disk space, “Memory Clean”, a tool that frees memory and “Copy Clip”, an easy to use clipboard manager.
You should definitely check the developers website and see if there is something useful for you.
The best emulator for nostalgic consoles like
… you should definitely check OpenEmu, a beautiful and easy to use emulator. You just have to bring your games. Try to search for them in Google with search terms like “NES game pack torrent download”.
I had a problem with Outlook 2011 for Mac OSX after my system had crashed. When I clicked the Outlook icon, nothing happened – not even an entry in the syslog log messages has been written.
The solution to that problem had been:

I had a set of customer brand fonts types installed in Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac and Word did not show them after the Maverik Update.
I tried almost everything from disabling it in the user store and enabling it in the computer store to a remove of the font cache in the “/Users/neo/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/Preferences/Office 2011” Folder.
What helped was to convert the TTF font to the DAFONT format via http://onlinefontconverter.com. Upload the font that does not show up, convert it to the DAFONT format. Remove the font from you local font stores via the Font Book App and install them as the DAFONT type.
Close all Office Applications and start Word again. Check if it updates the Font Cache during startup. If not – remove all contents from the directory mentioned above.
This should fix the problem. It did in my case.
